Book review: New Paris Style

'Parisian style' - that highly sough after and often elusive quality sometimes best described as simply 'je ne sais quoi'. It often involves a sense of casual elegance, exuberant and carefree self expression that is balanced with a refined curatorial eye. While North Americans tend to be fairly conservative in their self expression through style, Parisians appear to have a bold self confidence which has created a longstanding fascination and intrigue. In her new book, New Paris Style, Danielle Miller allows you to glimpse into twenty seven Parisian homes that will definitely leave you feeling refreshed and inspired.

A far cry from bland or boring, these homes really shook up my notions of what was possible and what I should try in my own home. Looking through the vibrantly coloured and often heavily accessorized spaces, I felt emboldened to step out of the box and be a little more playful in my own space. While the spaces share the common theme of a bold and beautiful mix, the book shares a wide range or styles ranging from minimal to more traditional to ultra modern, from bold and dramatic to soft and serene,  each defying the common stereotypes for these categories. No matter what label you may use to describe your own personal style, you're likely to find a fit within these pages that will feel like a 'fit' while still encouraging you to step things up a bit. An absolute must-have for any Francophiles, and a perfect addition to library of any design lover who's looking to shake things up a bit.

I would definitely enjoy this lovely book. I love all the interesting details in these rooms particularly the tulip chair in the corner of the bedroom.
