Jonathan Adler makes me happy. In an industry that often has a reputation for taking itself too seriously, to me he seems to have captured the essence of what it's all really supposed to be about anyway - creating beautiful spaces that make you feel happy to be in!
His two new books Happy Chic: Colours and Happy Chic: Accessorizing are a complete delight - bursting with the bright, vivid colours and bold patterns we've come to love and expect from Jonathan but also, lots of tips, tricks and insights behind his own inspiration.
A sneak peak: his favourite white paint to show off all the bright colours - Benjamin Moore's Marine Deck; some of his style muses: Lilly Pulitzer and Grace Jones.
One of my favourite parts was his own manifesto at the back of each book, here are a few highlights:
"I believe that your home should make you happy.
I believe that when it comes to decorating, the wife
is always right. Unless the husband is gay.
I believe in carbohydrates and to hell with the
I believe that minimalism is a bummer.
I believe in being underdressed or overdressed, always.
I believe that celebrities should pay full price.
I believe in Aid to Artisans.
I believe my designs are award-winning even though
they've never actually won any.
I believe my lamps will make you look younger and thinner.
I believe in irreverent luxury."
And I believe that Jonathan Adler just might be my new hero.Thank you Jonathan, for remind us that at the end of the day, it's really supposed to be fun!
P.S. These books would make a fantastic gift for a decor loving friend or colleague - or anyone who could use a little dose of Happy Chic!
