Creative Spaces by Geraldine James

Books are always one of my most favourite gifts both to give and to receive. This past Christmas, I was lucky enough to receive Creative Spaces: Inspired homes and creative interiors by Geraldine James from a friend. And both inspiring and creative it was indeed! The book allows us to voyeuristically peak into the homes of twenty very different and very creative individuals from different parts of the globe with styles ranging from very layered and detailed bohemian homes, to modern industrial styles to all white purists. Each telling the story of their inhabitants in a very beautiful and unique way. Geraldine has done a lovely job of not only sharing the images of these homes, but also sharing the stories behind the details and personalities within them. While most coffee table books are generally good for a flip through, this one quickly ended up on my nightstand as I often wanted to continue pouring over the details of the spaces and stories a little bit longer. This book is a really inspiring read for any interior design lover or anyone who feels they are in a bit of a style rut with their home. Bucking all the rules and current trends, it shares some beautiful ideas on how to bring in quirky, personal details and break the rules in a way that will bring your home to life and make it a true original.

Art loving modernists: Patric and Christina Shaw's Brooklyn brownstone

The west London home of fashion designer Betty Jackson and her husband David Cohen.

The Brooklyn home of Kate Spade brand director Kyle Andrew and her husband Rick.

The central London home of interior designer Shaun Clarkson and textile designer Paul Brewster.

The London home of Joel Bernstein, former head of concept of Liberty of London.

A classic in all white - this beautiful home of Katie and Gino da'Prato was also on the holiday cover of Living Etc magazine, so I enjoyed it twice that month. I especially love their little Pomeranian Pucci here, relaxing on a skateboard.

Creative Spaces by Geraldine James is published by CICO Books and is available from rylandpeters.com

Omg...the cat on the skateboard in the last room...I almost didn't notice it. Hilarious.

Isn't he too cute! I didn't immediately notice either, but as soon as I did he quickly became my favourite feature in the room ;)
