Bright + bold: Stephen Ormandy

Yet another winter storm has started to dampen spirits around here, and as you may have noticed from recent posts, I've found myself craving images of lush tropical landscapes, bright colours and signs of life thriving when it seems so dreary outdoors. Sydney, Australia based artist Stephen Ormandy's vibrant, colourful pieces never fail to pick me up and give me a boost. The simple, organic forms and his thoughtfully yet fearlessly selected colour palettes have a great sense of energy and life to them. Funnily enough, when I looked back I realized that last time I'd posted about his work was at almost exactly this time of year two years ago, and my initial introduction to his work from the tour of his home from Australian Vogue Living, was shared here around the end of January the year before (this home remains an all-time favourite of mine!). Perhaps these bright, bold pieces will just have to be declared my official remedy to the winter blues.

Stephen is also one of my favourite people to follow on Instagram, often sharing little insights into his studio work and home.

All photos: Stephen Ormandy via Olsen Irwin Gallery, if you are currently in the Sydney area Stephen's work is currently on exhibit there until Feb 9.

PS - no sooner had I done the post than I saw that Lucy and team at the Design Files has just posted a fantastic tour of Stephen and Louise's beautiful Sydney home - even better (and in more detail) than the original Vogue Living spread. Be sure to check it out here.

These images definitely brightened my day. If only they would cause the snow to melt too!
