Fuchsia on the floor

Recently I've been quite obsessed with the colour fuchsia. It's alway been one of my most favourite shades and since it's been popping up in so many fashion collections recently, I've been taking full advantage of this- to the extent that almost every single recent clothing purchase has been fuchsia and my husband's even started to make fun of me for it.
While perhaps I can relax on my fuchsia fashion obsession for a little while, I've found something bigger and better to move on to - fuchsia on the floor.

I love everything about the colour scheme in this living room - from the sofa grey sofa with purple and blue accent pillows to the bright fuchsia over-dyed rug on the floor. The walls are left white and the windows bare to balance it all.

This living room is in the home of Melbourne designer Lauren Seeman, featured in The Design Files.

Black, white and wood

One week from today, I'll be heading off to Harare, Zimbabwe - the city I consider my home town and from which I've been separated for a decade. I'm starting to get really excited about the trip, and the prospect of becoming reacquainted with old, familiar places, faces, tastes and even smells, and discovering some of the new changes.

This room has been on my mind for quite some time now. Black, white and wood. Strong, dramatic but very simple. This space is full of contrasts - black and white, sleek modern and ornate traditional architecture. Something about the simple styling, the natural tones and the floods of light reminds me of Africa. I can't wait to see what I'll discover there.
