Office inspiration: Sonia Kashuk's New York office

I've been in organizational power-mode lately, staying true to the New Year's resolution I share with many of (finally!) getting myself organized. While it can be quite frustrating at times, I'm starting to get quite excited about the results. The process started with a big re-vamp of the large cork inspiration board hanging above my desk. I'd been feeling a little stagnant, and taking the time to select fresh new images of the life I want to create really helped me to see myself on a brand new page.

One of the central images on my board currently is of Sonia Kashuk's bright office space. Very open with high ceilings and in all white to allow a blank canvas for all of her colourful creations. The sleek white table multi-tasks as Sonia's desk, display counter, conference and dining area.

What really 'sealed the deal' for me with this space, is the beautiful marriage between function and sentiment. Everything in the space is readily accessible with most of the shelving and storage on casters for easy mobility. This includes the West Elm shelving unit (above) and the Sterilite cart from Target (below). These work well at home too - "they're great in a bathroom or for holding kids toys," she says.

While the space has maximized on storage and function, there are little hints of sentiment throughout. The open shelf (top photo) has a display of framed personal photographs and throughout the space, Sonia has displayed the collection of black-and-white fashion photography that she has collected over the past twenty years. Not hanging them allows her to move them around frequently, highlighting old favourite pieces or brand new pieces.

Upholstered benches in classic patterns like the zebra print or a tailored camel piece add easy functional seating when needed, and act as a lovely display for favourite art and photography books.

I'm on a similar mission to organize- I'm starting with my disasterous main hall closet- I spent the day looking for some way to get it looking better and zero luck- kind of discouraged but going to keep trying...I'm longing for some ordered pretty. Your office inspiration is so vibrant and happy feeling- perfect for an office.

Christine - I know, organization can sometimes feel like a backwards process, you almost have to make a big mess in order to clean things up a bit. I'm sure it will pay off beautifully in the end!
