Mid Century Modern Glamour

The Oscars last night have left me feeling inspired by the old Hollywood glamour of Los Angeles. While it may always have that laid-back California cool, there are always hints of deco glamour and gold details thrown in giving the appearance of an effortless sophistication. The sunny skies and hints of Spring we've been enjoying lately have me craving the California lifestyle – seamlessly living both outdoors and in, and a casual openness, letting the warm breezes easily flow through your living space.

The Perrin family's home in Los Angeles brings out the glamorous side of mid-century modern with soft, muted tones throughout the space, accented with warm teak and bronze. Nestled in a sea of greenery, this 1950's gem was designed by Victor Gruen and is completely covered in windows, letting the outdoors in and flooding the home with bright light. With the help of friend, French designer Chahan Minassian they've created a beautiful tranquil space that fits the home's mid-century architecture with a dash of French glamour.

The space is beautifully edited with carefully curated art throughout. The white walls and understated decor allow each piece of art to stand out.

Throughout the space there is a heavy use of soft curves in the furniture - echoed even in the piano, and contrasting beautifully with the strong linear lines of this mid-century space.

These soft lines and textures help to make the space more soothing and relaxing, while still keeping with neutral tones. The subtly soft animal hide rug and the shimmering Capiz shell curtains are perfect examples of this.

The soft grey and white tones in the Moroccan print rug and dining set are echoed in the collection of pottery and floating shelves. Strong black elements like the dining base or the grand piano ground the space and stop it from looking too airy or delicate.

Warm teak stands out beautifully against soft grey shades.

The bedrooms provide a relaxing oasis with calm muted shades and plush textures. Soft frills and shag rugs balance out the linear furniture.

A private courtyard off the bedroom - the perfect personal oasis, to enjoy a beautiful moment at the beginning or end of your day, alone with your thoughts and only the breeze to whisper to you.

Happy Monday everyone - wishing you bright, open spaces to enjoy the sunshine!
